The Work I Do

As a Rheumatologist, I diagnose and treat a broad range of musculoskeletal and multi-organ autoimmune diseases. I perform joint and soft tissue injections and aspirations to treat various rheumatic conditions. I also specialise in the investigation and treatment of rare autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, in addition to the diagnostic process and management of medically unexplained symptoms.

My role as an Acute & General Internal Medicine Consultant principally involves diagnosing, stabilising and treating a wide variety of life-threatening and non-life-threatening medical conditions.

I consult private patients at The Physicians’ Clinic and the Princess Grace Hospital, alongside my NHS work at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

At the Royal Free Hospital, I jointly run the Connective Tissue Disease and Vasculitis Clinic, and have established the Rheumatology Hot Clinic - a rapid access clinic for patients with new and acute rheumatological conditions - designed to optimise the early recognition and prompt treatment of potentially damaging and organ-threatening diseases. I collaborate closely with specialists in Oncology, as part of the Immunotherapy Multidisciplinary Team, to treat cancer patients developing Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor-related Rheumatic Diseases.

I deliver undergraduate and postgraduate education and training. In my role as an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, I work alongside University College London Medical School as the Undergraduate Lead for Acute Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital, and as the Undergraduate Lead for Rheumatology for the Barnet Hospital student cohort. I organise and chair the weekly Rheumatology Postgraduate Meeting, deliver bedside teaching to MRCP(UK) PACES candidates, and actively mentor trainee and resident doctors through educational and clinical supervision. I also maintain my interest in academia and research as a site Principal Investigator participating in multi-centre trials.

In my spare time I enjoy playing sport, keeping fit, spending time with family, travelling and providing medical humanitarian support.

The Early Years

I obtained my undergraduate medical degree (MBChB), including an intercalated bachelor's degree (BMedSci) in Medical Biology, from the University of Edinburgh.

I then undertook my early postgraduate medical training while working in a variety of Inner London teaching hospitals including St Thomas’ Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

During this time, I obtained the MRCP(UK) diploma and furthered my interest in both education and research with a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education and in my role as an Honorary Research Fellow at the Royal Brompton Hospital, with co-authorship in numerous research articles. Furthermore, I worked as an Associate Editor for the Oxford Medical Case Reports journal.

Higher Specialisation

I undertook higher specialty training with dual accreditation in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine whilst working in the Thames Valley region, developing my expertise at the internationally renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

I was selected to partake in the one-year Chief Registrar programme - the Royal College of Physicians flagship work-based leadership programme - during my time at Wexham Park Hospital where I also received the annual Leadership Award and gained formal recognition for my instrumental role during the COVID-19 response. I was then appointed to the Trainee Leadership Board during my final year of higher speciality training at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust where I further developed my management credentials.

During the final three months of my training, I was appointed as an acting Consultant at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust where I honed my expertise in both Rheumatology and Internal Medicine. Since 2022, I have been a substantive Consultant in Rheumatology and Acute & General Internal Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
